Monkey on Vacation

Even monkeys need a rest.

I am sorry, my friends, but Mr. Monkey in on vacation this week.

You may not realize this, but the innards of Mr. Monkey are attached to the body of a very busy, sleep-deprived, bi-vocational pastor who just got back from a weekend conference. After that, he preached two services on Sunday (the first one only 30 minutes after getting in from Gatinburg/Pigeon Forge, TN).

Mr. Monkey’s guts ended Sunday night with the completion of a third essay (the first two written in a hotel) and an online exam (which took 20 minutes). Seminary work is fun, fun, fun! Really, it is, honestly.

So, pass the word to all the broken-hearted. There will be no Monday Monkey this week, but there are more Mondays to come. I promise not to be like the jerks at NCIS and only show 2 new episodes the whole season!

Monday Monkey “Monkey Meets Benny” (Episode 14)

Yesterday was the fifth Sunday of the month, and every fifth Sunday we have a singing at the church I pastor.

Our guest for the yesterday’s singing was Benny Berry. He was a tremendous blessing to us all. Check out links to his websites, below.

Anyway, I had plans to do some other stuff for this episode, but things changed when I heard the closing song in the service. The song was I Love to Tell the Story. The “story” is why Mr. Monkey and I do what we do. I hope you enjoy it.

Monday Monkey “Staring Contest” (Episode 13)

This episode was added later in the day. I apologize for that. Sometimes a man and his monkey can only do what a man and his monkey can do, you know?

Well, this week’s lesson might be hard to gather from the video, but it’s about choosing your battles.

Don’t choose to fight a losing battle. If nothing else, wait for a better time and place to make your stand. Be patient and prepared. Don’t let your enemy pick the battleground or set the rules. As one great general said, “Never enter a battle unless you know you can win.

However, there is a Hope when all seems lost, when the battle seems hopeless…

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. – 1Jo 4:4

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, [even] our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? – 1Jo 5:4-5

Monday Monkey Gaga (Episode 10)

One would think that my first post of the year would be something serious and profound – oh, well. I can’t help it that it’s Monday.

In this episode, we see Mr. Monkey overdoing it with the non-alcoholic sparkling pear juice (it was nasty!). Don’t hold it against him, though. It was all the store had on the shelf. The apple cider was all sold out.

But just in case you missed it, Matthew 6:33 gets referenced in the end of the video. Why? Because this year let’s not be so focused on getting ahead, winning elections, or making the grade. This year let’s put God first in all we do. This year let’s seek His kingdom and His righteous first.

Monday Monkey – “The Gift” (Episode 8)

This episode of Monday Monkey features my beautiful wife, Valerie. Also, by her side is our little “boy,” Nugget.

I hope you enjoy it, and if you do, then please pass it along, recommend it, forward it…whatever!

Just do this first – warn those who startle easily. Otherwise, you might ought to have an ambulance standing by.

“Don’t Monkey Around with Gifts!”

1Peter 4:10 – As every man hath received the gift, [even so] minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Monday Rain (Episode 5)

Rain and Mondays go hand in hand (or is that drop in hand?). And since it is raining here, as Ray Charles might say, “I think it’s rainin’ all over the world.”

If it is raining where you are, don’t waste the opportunity. For instance…

– When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade.

– When life gives you oranges, you make orange juice.

– When life gives you weird relatives, you either pretend they don’t exist and return their party invitations, or make funny videos of them for TV. Make the most of what you have, people!

When a little rain doth fall, go out and sing in it!

Just make sure you do it in the back yard if you have a monkey puppet in a rain coat on your hand.

Monday Monkey – “At the Wheel” (Episode 2)

One of the greatest country songs to come out of Nashville in the last, oh, 20 years was Jesus Take the Wheel.

This video is not meant to make fun of that song, so I hope Carrie Underwood doesn’t hate me when she sees this (I hope she see this).

This episode/edition of “Monday Monkey” pays tribute to Jesus Take the Wheel, while at the same time making fun of Monday-morning drivers.

“There’s a Monkey at the Wheel”

And before I forget, thanks to:

  1. Lauren Huckabee, for doing the vocals (she actually has an American Idol story). Great job!
  2. Scott, for the use of his Isuzu (that’s what the monkey drove to run me off the road).
  3. My daughter, Katie, for putting up with me and doing all the filming (with the iPhone 4).
  4. My wife, for not reminding me how much time it took to make a 59 second video.
  5. Jesus, for taking the wheel.

Monday Monkey Introduction

Lord willing (and if my iPhone4 keeps working), there will be a new segment starting next Monday…

“Monday Monkey”

Watch the video and you will understand. Just keep in mind, it’s all still Biblical.

“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” – Proverbs 17:22 KJV

Even Though It’s Monday

No Time Off

Many preachers/pastors take Monday off. I don’t. I can’t. So, Monday mornings around 5 a.m. I am getting ready to greet the dark with a smile.

This morning, like many Mondays, the last thing I wanted to do was get out of bed. I just wanted to stay covered up and deaf to any alarm that dared wake me.

Then, after getting up and on the bus, a thought crossed my sleep-deprived mind – even though it is Monday

At Least I’m Not a Toy Monkey

No, I am not a monkey. Specifically, I am not a 25-year-old puppet monkey named Buddy. I am human…a man…a divinely created person. I am not a synthetic, stitched toy with a hand up my…well, you get it.

Even though it is Monday, and I have 2 weeks worth of work to do in 5 days, I am loved by God. Buddy the monkey is only loved by 3 people, maybe 4 or 5, depending on the mood of the day.

Even though it is Monday, and burdens weigh heavy on my heart, I do not carry them alone. Buddy, even though he has no burdens, has been secluded in a box more years than he has seen the daylight. Buddy doesn’t understand pain or heartache, but neither does he understand joy, love, worship, or fellowship.

Even though it is Monday, I was created by God. Buddy was made on a Chinese sewing machine.

Even though it is Monday, I can praise God for another day. Buddy, a toy monkey, knows nothing about praise. He’s just cute.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Genesis 1:27

“LORD, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him!” Psalm 144:3

“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” Psalm 118:24
