Promoting i4Daily

i4dailyMost of you, especially if you are new subscribers, probably aren’t aware of my photo blog, i4Daily. I’d love for you to check it out sometime.

Here’s the Story…

The iPhone has been a wonderful tool. I have used it for school, work, study (I can access my whole LOGOS library online), video, and photos. It had proved nearly indispensable to my blogging. Therefore, because I take pictures that usually never end up in this blog, I decided to create another one to showcase some daily pics.

Now, rarely do I just post a picture without first using an editing app. The pictures taken on the iPhone 4s are good, but it usually can be tweaked. So, for the most part I use BeFunky for editing.

Therefore, if you have a moment, browse my photos. I have no theme, or anything like that, but some are pretty dadgum good if you ask me. But of course, I’m prejudiced.

Click HERE to visit i4Daily. You can go to the “archive” tab at the top and browse through all the photos from the past. Each has it’s own little story, too.

Just Write

One thing that I have heard over and over again from experienced writers is, “Just write.” When asked how to become a better writer, they say, “Just write.” When asked, “What if I don’t know what to write about today?”, they say, “Just write.”

Okie Dokie.

There once was a blubber named Blue who went to the ocean blue – who knew? He went there all scared, then came back prepared to marry a rubber rain shoe.

So, what’s all this stuff about North Korea? I think their leader actually believes the propaganda he heard as a child. Either that, or he has been affected by lead poisoning leaching from the medals of his generals.

I think that bullies are victims, too. Seriously! I read a meme posted by somebody on Facebook that blasted others for making fun of people. Well, when you bash bullies, remember that they are only scared, insecure, babies in big-boy clothes. They need love, too.

Have I ever told you that I hate the word “meme” almost as much as cottage cheese?

I have learned in my last semester of seminary that I am just as intelligent as my professors and most of the authors of my text books. No joke. I’m just not as well educated.

I broke my glasses this week, so I had to pull out an old pair with an older prescription. Until I can get some new ones I am wearing this pair with a broken ear piece put back together with a steel-like puddy. It’s not been too bad, though. Now I look like the nerd I never was. Maybe I’ll score an IT job making $150K a year!

There comes a time in every preacher’s life, especially one who preaches three times a week, when he asks the question: “What in the world am I going to preach on this Sunday?” Imagine being enrolled in a never-ending speech class!

I don’t mind when I snore.

Don’t you hate it when the weather is cold in the morning but hot as the Sahara in the afternoon? One has to start off the day in a parka, but end it in shorts and a t-shirt. It gets bad when you forget to check the forecast and end up later in the day wearing a flannel shirt and no deodorant.

It has been determined that I will never be a Calvinist.

I never liked Elmo on Sesame Street. Grover was my hero. I can even talk like him.

Kenya could use some of President Obama’s vacation money. I wonder if his daughters will go there on their next mission trip?

People are putting up gutters outside my window. I wonder that they are thinking as they look inside and see me sitting here, typing away like a professional writer? I bet they’re thinking, “Those blisters he has to get on his fingers must be painful, poor guy.”

Have a great Tuesday!

Or, if you are reading this on another day of the week, have a great whatever that day is, too!

Hacked Email

This morning I woke up to several emails asking odd questions. One friend who is involved with monitoring attempted terrorist attacks on our waterways sent me an email saying, “You have been hacked.” Oh. That explained it.

Well, if you received a strange email from me in the middle of the night (depending on where you live), and if it was a spam email, then please accept my apologies. I can’t say it won’t happen again, but I’ll do my best to up the security.

In the meantime, here are some suggestions to help determine if an email you receive is actually from me…

First, if you receive an email with a time stamp of 3:30 a.m., toss it. If it is so important that I get a message to you in the middle of the night, I will either call, text, or say something other than “Hello!” If you do actually receive an email from me when I should be sleeping, just report me to my wife.

Secondly, I don’t know any “hot girls” or “sexy singles”. Let’s try to keep it that way, OK?

Thirdly, I hate to forward anything, and usually won’t if someone asks. If you receive a message that says something like, “You’ve got to check this out!”, then it’s probably not from me. If you receive anything that says, “Forward this to at least 10 people and you will be blessed with love and success,” it came from Satan, not me.

Lastly, I don’t do weird stuff. If it is an email asking you to check out some new “thing” on the market or a new gimmick to help you lose weight, it’s not from me. If it is a link to something sexual, shame on you if you click it!

Well, there you have it. I am sure I could come up with more suggestions, but I have other stuff to do. I hope this was helpful.

If you have any other suggestions, leave them in the comment section below. Your email may be the next one hacked.

15 Awesome Quotes on Preaching (by Chris Jordan)

Today I was fortunate to cross paths with a brother in Christ, Chris Jordan. He is a pastor and author in Canada.

This post of his is worth reading, especially if you are one of those who stand behind a pulpit each week. I was convicted by several of the 15 quotes he included.

“Freshly Pressed” High, then Reality

Woo Hoo!

I was so thrilled when I was told this blog was going to be featured on “Freshly Pressed.” I was literally ecstatic (well, let me make sure of the definition – a trance-like state of joy or delight – OK, that’s good), really I was.

Just the thought that this wee widdle bwog was chosen out of so many thousands was mind blowing. It was better than when I got the Perfect Attendence Award in 3rd grade! Or was it 4th grade? Or was it the spelling bee?

Anyway, on October 1st my recorded views gradually climbed and climbed, peaking out at 942 by midnight. Wow! Never in one day has so many people come to read anything I had ever written. Wow!

Woo!

Then October 2nd came. Wow! Several hundred views in one day. Not too bad, little camper!

And then all the other days came…and went…with gradually declining numbers. It was like watching Enron‘s stock prices fall. It was like I was watching my stats try to break the sound barrier after leaping from a record height.

But it was all right. I knew that going in. I knew there were no promises that I would become an award-winning blogger overnight, all because of some silly award-like gift from the blogging mega-minds at WordPress. I mean, after all, I did get a few followers and a whole lot of “likes” (to which I have not yet finished replying – sorry).

Oh Hooey!

No, the real problem was that once the initial high was over, I had to face reality. Only 1000 views in a day? Are you kidding? I was excited about nearly 1000 views in a day?

Do you realize that there are blogs out there that receive tens of thousands of views a day? Let me spell that out – Tee Eee Enn Thous Ain’t Nothin’. Whatever.

If getting thousands of views a day means I  have to become another Perez Hilton, forget it.

Oh Hey!

Thanks, though, for all of you who regularly stop by to read my nonsense. You are appreciated. All 15 of you.

Now back to writing about stuff that matters. My wife just told me, “You keep writing stuff like that, and if it were me, I would quit coming back to see what you wrote – all that ‘just to write‘ stuff doesn’t interest me. Just saying.”

Blog Drug

Can’t Help It!

I have so much writing to do by tomorrow night, it isn’t even funny (but that won’t keep me from finding something to laugh about, especially when I start operating on no sleep). I have to get a research paper done  – no excuses.

But when I keep getting email notifications of other blog posts, it’s like waving an addictive drug in front of an addict to addictive drugs. It’s driving me crazy! I want to write about stuff, too!

So, even though I am on a deadline, I had to get on here and say something. I can’t help it. It’s been too long.

Something

Something.” There, I said it.

That does remind me of a professor I had years and years and years ago. Dr. Jay P. Trimble was a black (African-American, to be politically correct) pastor and veteran of the Vietnam war. He was (and is) a tough cookie.

Whenever Dr. Trimble would say something worth saying, and he knew it, he expected a response. If he didn’t get an “amen,” a “hallelujah,” or a “you got that right,” he would slam his hand on the pulpit and say in a loud, gruff voice that would remind you of a Harley Davidson revving its engine, “I SAID something!

Well, I might not have had anything worth saying, but I DID say “something.”

Can I get an “AMEN!”?

Late-Nite Saturday Rant

In the Dark

I’m sitting in the dark on an empty school bus, waiting for a high school football team to finish playing. I have 29% battery on my iPhone, and I want to read my real Bible, not an app.

So, since it is dark (28%, now), I will blog in the dark. At least until I get to 20%.

Things that Irritate

A lot of people have used their blogs to gripe about things they hate, or things that irritate them (27%). Therefore, because I just heard something that irritated me when I watched a video on Socialcam, I will share some of my dislikes. Why not?

…..the limited capabilities of WordPress’s smartphone app.

…..(26%) people that won’t sing a well-known song to the beat, but delay the lyrics in order to appear more spiritual (’cause it doesn’t make them sound better).

…..when there is a hole in one slice of bread and the jelly on my peanut butter and jelly sandwich leaks onto my hand.

…..(25%) mosquitoes.

…..cat hair in my throat (or any hair) that won’t wash down or cough up, but just sticks there.

…..a sunburn on my bald head.

…..(24%) no car charger for my phone while on a field trip.

…..reporters that ask to interview me, then distort the truth, making me look bad.

Oh great! The team is done. I’m cranking up the bus. I have light!

Going Home

Well, I now have 23% battery on my phone, but now it’s time to go home. I’ve got to make sure everything’s ready for the road.

Hope everybody goes to church somewhere this Sunday. You’re welcome to visit ours and hear me preach. If you do, that will NOT irritate me.

Thanks to You, a New Milestone is Reached!

10,001

Unless you know what that number is in reference to, it won’t mean much to you. It means a lot to me.

In August of 2009 I started The Recovering Legalist. I didn’t know much about blogging or writing quality articles, and I still don’t. All I wanted was an outlet for my thoughts, and an opportunity to meet other people who shared them. It has become much more.

Now, I am pleased to say, I have friends all over the world who share my thoughts, or at least give me a piece of theirs on occasion. In a simple, but miraculous way this blog has even been used to minister to hurting people, even witness to the lost, in countries I will probably never see.

But getting back to the numbers, from January 2010 until now, there was a 717% increase in views! As of today, just a few minutes before this writing, I had 10,001 views! Praise the Lord!

Of course, I know that there are plenty of other bloggers out there who can boast of dramatically larger numbers. That’s OK. Some of them are my friends. But you know, 10,000 isn’t bad when you consider that 8,777 of them came in the last year, and it’s not over, yet.

Here’s to a bigger and better 2012 – for the Glory of God!

Guest Posts

I had other thoughts to share today, but as “fate” would have it, I am sitting at the Doctor’s office with my wife and 15 yr.-old daughter. My wife needs a medication change; my daughter is texting; and I have been corresponding with a Navy Seabee in Afghanistan via Facebook on my iPhone.

Amazing what can be done from a telephone these days! In the palm of my hand I have the ability to send out a message to countries all over the world, much less my own community. Just amazing.

But that’s not what I wanted to write about, at least this time. I want to quickly address the subject of “guest posts.”

Who Got This Started?

I’m relatively new to the blogosphere, so could someone tell me when and where the idea of having others do your writing for you came from? Oh yeah, I know, the Holy Spirit. You know, it’s like the Bible had a Holy Ghost writer, get it? Not funny? Oh well, I am in a doctor’s office. Give me a break.

You see, I was just thinking that if I had someone doing my writing for me, then I could sit here and play Angry Birds. The only problem is that I don’t know who I would ask… well, except Heather Joy. She’s the one that introduced me to all this “guest-posting” stuff.

So, if I could get them, who would I want to write on my blog? You see, the goal would not only be to bless others and honor God, but to increase readership. My dream guests would be people who were known by many, had a past that was forgiven, and could relate to freedom and grace. What if some of the following actually became believers in Christ and wanted to share their newfound faith? What would they write about?

Here’s some ideas…..

Any one of those Tattoo Reality Show people – “Marks that Won’t Rub Off.”

Lady Ga Ga – “How Being Born From an Egg Taught Me About New Birth and the Trinity.”

Madonna – she would probably be hyper-Arminian, so she would write a post entitled “Like a Christian, Saved for the Very First Time.”

Justin Bieber – “I Was Being Groomed to be the Anti-Christ.”

Sting – “Death, Where Is Your Me?”

Obama – “Tea for Two – My Journey from Ambiguous Religiosity to Legitimate Orthodox Christianity, and the Conservatives Who Showed Me the Way (and the Truth and the Life).”

Well, you never know.
