Monday Monkey (The Least of These)

He’s Alive!

Well, not exactly, but you know what I mean. Mr. Monkey (a.k.a. Buddy) is back with a new video for Christmas. And this time he actually talks! Sorta.

Mr. Monkey has been resting for a few months on my suit rack, allowing my brain to regrow some creative neurons. I hope you think the wait was worth it.

Christmas Spirit

Christmas is the time we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, the Savior of the world, so what better way to express the “spirit” of Christmas than by showing compassion to those in need? God, in His mercy and grace, gave sinful man the most precious gift He could give, His Son. Therefore, in all our giving, shouldn’t our gifts mirror the first Gift?

We should keep in mind that the whole reason Jesus came was to save the lost (Luke 19:10). He came to the lowly and outcast, the poor and downtrodden (Isa. 61:1; Luke 4:18). At the very least, if we are to say we have the “spirit of Christmas,” shouldn’t we be seeking out those in need, not heaping gifts upon gifts on top of already over-blessed children?

This year, make an effort to show grace and compassion to someone outside of your family, someone in need, and especially someone in need of love. After all, isn’t that the real message of Christmas? When you do, keep in mind, it might be Jesus your giving to (Matt. 25:40).

Christmas Monkey Recap

It’s late in the day, but it is still Monday. So, why not a Monday Monkey episode?

Actually, this is a video I made for Christmas 2012 (I think). My wife, Valerie, should have gotten an Oscar for the “scream.”

I promise, more Monkey videos are on the way. Promise.

Monday Monkey (Whadaya Do?) Episode 39

Crazy Songs

Have you ever had a song that you couldn’t get out of your head? Sometimes they’re so bad you’d think Myley Cyrus had written them just to give you bad dreams.

Then there are songs that are so bad they’re CRAZY GOOD, like THIS one!

If you keep repeating it in your head, over and over, it will drown out the Miley Cyrus nightmares.

The Story I Love

It’s been a while since I first posted this video, but I think it’s time for a repeat.

A lot of you are new to this blog. You may not be aware that I periodically post videos on Mondays with a puppet monkey, just for fun. This video, however, is one of my favorites, and for good reason: it’s about the story I love to tell.

Benny Berry sang at our church one Sunday. That afternoon I asked if he felt like he could sing for a monkey. He raised an eyebrow, but agreed. The result was genuinely beautiful.

Crazy Stuff

Not long ago Lady GaGa  (Gaga? Ga Ga? Gag?) released a video unlike her normal, crazy, sick, “art.” I won’t post a link to it, though, because it is, well, sick!

Instead, I’m letting Mr. Monkey do his own version. Here he is showing his meditation techniques and saying the letter “A” for an extended period of time.

Incidentally, a big deal was made on one internet news channel that she held that “A” note for an “impressive 30 seconds.” Woopdidoo…so did Mr. Monkey. Hmph!

Monday Monkey (at the beach) Episode 37

Island of Palms, SC

There is no music, only the natural sounds of water crashing on the shore, a monkey yelling, etc.

This was Mr. Monkey’s first and last time to the beach. The Atlantic was not kind to his 30+ year-old, non-replenishing fur. He survived a washing machine this time, but I’m not willing to take any more chances.

Vacation is over. Maybe we can rescue the rest of our lives.

Monkey Survived

He Survived!

I was so worried, but Mr. Monkey came through the wash without falling apart. Washing a family heirloom is not something I do very often, especially 30 year-old puppets.

You see, I took Mr. Monkey with us to the beach in South Carolina. There he experienced getting buffeted by the salty waves crashing onto the shore. Fortunately, he didn’t need sunscreen.

The only problem is that Mr. Monkey came out of the wash fine, but ended up looking like he got a “perm” after only a few minutes in the dryer. He’s still a little damp, so he’s just hanging around, for now.

Well, signing off again from the WordPress iPhone app. Have a great Thursday!

Washing Monkey

I’m not sure about this.

I just did something that is making me sick. I just put Mr. Monkey in a washing machine.

Even though this is supposed to be one of those fancy machines, I’m still nervous – very nervous. My wife told me there is nothing inside the machine to hurt him, and with the setting set for “delicates,” it should be OK. I hope so.

I’ll never forget that look if something goes wrong.

My dad bought this monkey back in 1983. That means Mr. Monkey is 30 years old! Who puts a 30 year-old family artifact in a washing machine?!

Here we are in Charleston, SC at my daughter and son-in-law’s house. I’m using my iPhone to make this post and thinking of the footage I filmed for next week’s Monday Monkey. Was that Mr. Monkey’s last episode? Oh, I hope not!

Monday Monkey (Waking Up) Episode 36

It has been a really long while since I made a video with Mr. Monkey. The last one was in March!

No wonder the world has been going crazy.

So, after a long day at church, then painting cabinet doors for a neighbor, I got into bed. That’s when it hit me – make a video.

I made the whole thing (except for the music) while laying (lying?) on my back. My wife never noticed – thank goodness.

Have a great Monday!

P.S. Do I have any fans in Charleston, S.C.?

1000th Subscriber

1000 FollowersWoo Hoo!

Guess what, everybody? Just the other day this blog reached a major milestone – 1000 subscribers! Isn’t that cool?

It wasn’t that long ago – actually it was in October of 2011 – that I was doing all I could to come up with 100 subscribers. Can you believe that was the beginning of Mr. Monkey and the Monday Monkey segments?

Meet Muriel

Say hello to Muriel Debroy! Miss 1000!

This lovely Canadian real estate agent and food expert became my 1000th subscriber, and I am so proud to introduce her.

Muriel DebroyI talked with Muriel, today. She was kind enough to allow me to publish her picture and say a bunch of great stuff about her. The sad part is that I was about to go into a meeting when she returned my call, so I couldn’t talk long. But, even though we didn’t get to talk long, I found out that…

  1. She can call me cheaper than I can call her. International calls can get expensive!
  2. She deals with real estate, and Canada has a lot of that.
  3. People don’t know how to cook, but she’s the go-to woman for that problem. Sorry guys, she’s married.

Make sure you check out her website. I’m know she’ll appreciate it.

Blessed

Seriously, I want to thank all of my subscribers. Each one of you is a blessing, including the ones of whom I have no blooming idea why you read this blog (and you know who you are).

I hope all of you understand that I appreciate you and care about you. That is why I write what I write. May you be encouraged, challenged, strengthened, enlightened, and ultimately pointed towards a greater understanding of what it means to live a life of grace.

It’s only 1000 subscribers, not 10,000 or a million, but I’m still blessed.

To God be the glory; great things He has done.
