Breaking the Habit/Addiction (No mo nomophobia)

Stats Update

Last week I opened up and shared my iPhone usage stats for the week. I don’t know how they compare to other people (except one of our deacons), but they were, by estimation, a little high.

I said that I was going to try to cut back my usage my being a little more aware of what I was doing.

I did it!

Down 37% from last week!

Last week was 7h 35m! Not a huge decrease, but a decrease, nonetheless.

Yes, I watch a lot of YouTube videos. But I also have YouTube music. And, I don’t watch much television. This is pretty much it for me.

In comparison, last week’s average was 74, with the most pickups in one day being 107! I spent less time looking at Facebook this week.

How did you do?

Planning for 30,000!

I published my first posts on WordPress back in September of 2009 – all 4 of them. It was not until July of 2010 that I began to post more often.

But what bothers me is that I have yet to reach the 30,000-view mark. As a matter of fact, this year’s stats saw a dramatic drop, even though the number of posts I published were essentially the same (42 less than last year, and 9 more than in 2017).

So, being that this September will be my 10th anniversary with WordPress, it’s about time I break the 30K glass ceiling.

The following are my plans to accomplish the 30,000 mark:

  1. Pray before each post.
  2. Publish posts that are beneficial, not superficial nonsense meant only to score a few views.
  3. Focus on more in-depth series, like the 10-part one I’m about to do based on a sermon outline.
  4. Re-blog (share) posts from other bloggers on a regular basis.
  5. Read and comment more on other sites.
  6. Explore the “tags” and find new people to meet.
  7. Publish more than one post a day, even if the posts are shared posts or quick, encouraging thoughts, memes, or verses.
  8. Make myself available for doing guest posts.
  9. Keep a sense of humor and sanctified sarcasm 😉

If you have any other suggestions, I’d love for you to share them.

Blessings to you all!

A New Record (for #of views)

I would like to announce that as of yesterday, December 5, 2016, this blog surpassed its 2014 record of 21,979 views.

We broke the 22,000 mark for the first time!

Thanks for stopping by, everyone. I appreciate it.

Aluu Greenland! Welcome!

Visits from Greenland

Even though its size makes it the 12th largest country, Greenland’s total population would fit into a small American town.

I am so excited to see that someone  – or maybe three – in Greenland visited my blog, today!

You may think nothing of this, but to me it is really a big, big deal. I have never had a single hit from Greenland until today. Never! It has been one of those continents I’ve always wanted to reach, but could never get a bite. Happy day!

I had my accountant wife run the numbers for me, so let me put this in perspective. Based on statistics I dug up from the CIA and Wikipedia (probably equally reliable), getting three (3) views in one day from Greenland (population less than 57k) would be the same as getting 22,991 from America!

For crying out loud, as of 2013 they had only 16,384 IPv4 addresses! That’s less than 0.05% of the world’s total!

How many of YOU get 23,000 views a day, huh?

Needless to say, this is pretty cool… all the ice in Greenland aside.

Don’t Be Strangers

Dear visitor[s] from Greenland, don’t be a stranger! Now that you’ve visited my little sight at least once, maybe even three times, why not keep coming back?

Better yet, how about you leave a comment and let us know a little about yourself? That would be awesome!

Blatant, Unapologetic Hit Request

I’m on my school bus at this moment (not driving, of course), using my old-fashioned, antique iPhone 4s to write this post. You see, my internet at home has been down for a couple of days and I’m suffering from withdrawal. In other words, I’ve got to write something.

One thing I regularly do from my phone is check my stats. Let me be very honest: low visitor/view numbers can ruin my day. Why is this? Am I not supposed to be writing for the Lord? Just to make a difference? Whether people read my stuff, or not? Let’s get real, ok? Yes to the above, but I like recognition, too. Sorry, but I love the stage, whether it be literal or cyber.

Oh, I know it’s a pride thing I suffer from; I’m not an idiot. As a matter of fact, I love applause, awards, etc. But on the other hand, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying something. I’d be a pathetic preacher if I hated to speak in front of crowds, wouldn’t I? So, I know there’s an element of pride involved, but I do try to keep things in their proper perspective: “and whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”

But here I am. I’m writing. I’m on my phone. The kids are about to come out and load up, and I’m asking for numbers. I want to see how many views and likes I can get on this post. Why? Just for the heck of it, that’s all.

And, because I deserve it – I’m doing this from a phone, people!IMG_2595.JPG
