The Magnificent Fifty: Foundation of Faith (Nebraska)

Lincoln, Nebraska (Artist: Susan Cassidy Wilhoit)

U.S. Supreme Court – Nebraska Legislature (1893) To invoke Divine guidance on a public body entrusted with making the laws is not …an “establishment” of religion or a step toward establishment; it is simply a tolerable acknowledgment of beliefs widely held among the people of this country.

Chief Justice Warren E. Burger delivered Court’s opinion in Marsh v. Chambers, 463 U.S. 783

The Magnificent Fifty: Foundation of Faith (Missouri)

Jefferson City, Missouri (Artist: Susan Cassidy Wilhoit)

Missouri Constitution, Article I, Section 5 (1845)

That all men have a natural and indefeasible right to worship God…

Just think how different North Korea could be if this one, simple sentence could be a part of their constitution?

What makes America different? This! Freedom of …OF – not “from”… religion. Specifically, the right to worship God, not man.

Give the FFRF (Freedom From Religion Foundation) what they want and we’ll end up like every other dictatorial society whose people live in bondage. Because like Bob Dylan said,

Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you’re gonna have to serve somebody

I’d rather serve God, than man.

The Magnificent Fifty: Foundation of Faith (West Virginia)

Charleston, West Virginia (Artist: Susan Cassidy Wilhoit)

Constitution Preamble (1872)

Since through Divine Providence we enjoy the blessings of civil, political and religious liberty, we, the people of West Virginia reaffirm our faith and constant reliance upon God.

Let’s look at that again:

“…we, the people of West Virginia reaffirm our faith and constant reliance upon God.”

Sounds a lot like another embattled phrase, doesn’t it?

“In God We Trust”

By the way, the “Supreme Ruler of the Universe” doesn’t sit in the Oval Office or the Supreme Court.

The Magnificent Fifty: Foundation of Faith (Virginia)

Richmond, Virginia (Artist: Susan Cassidy Wilhoit)

Virginia Bill of Rights, Article XVI (1776)

Religion, or the Duty which we owe our Creator, can be directed by reason and conviction…that it is the mutual duty of all to practice Christian forbearance, love and charity towards each other.

What kind of forbearance, love, and charity?
