Observations from a Middle-Georgia Pastorate: Stay On the Float, Don’t Give Up

I’m going to be totally honest with you, OK? There was a post I published for just a few minutes this morning, but then I took it down and added it to the “draft” bin. Even as I was writing it, it seemed forced. So, no matter how I tried to edit it, it never seemed “right.”

So, what did I do? I decided I’d try to do a video blog ( a Vlog) post. I mean, hey, I’m a preacher, so why not just TELL my story? Yet, what happened? After multiple recordings, multiple edits, and multiple times trying to upload, only to see “Upload Failed,” I almost gave up.

Nothing was working!

YET, I still felt I needed to post something, almost like it was imperative that I do so. Why the pressure? Why the stress?

So, I decided to try one more thing – record straight to YouTube. No editing, not fancy camera work, no script…just raw, unedited video of me sharing what’s on my heart.

As I’m writing this, I’m waiting for the video to upload to YouTube (it’s taking awhile). If it uploads with no problem, you will see it below.

It’s taking a looooooonnnnng time.

Ah, finally 🙂

God bless!
Anthony

It is ok. I am having problems posting to you and another pastor. I think it is a plot.:):)

Hi Amy, I was just talking with God about and Idea. I wanted a button on my website that said Suicide. So someone could click on it. And then of course have a list of helps.
And then I thought of you and what the rest of your life will be consumed with. And thought. Amy could create a button. that could be put on everyone’s website. And you would be the CEO of a company that collected information, screened it and had a live chat button. where your people lets say 15 workers from home where on call to help with emergencies.

So I Pondered this Idea and thought of what I could do for my site for now, and how to approach telling you about the Idea and what the set up would look like. Then I had a bowl of fruit and started looking through my Email and clicked on a email sent from “this guys site.” And he recorded this video. And I thought. Maybe there is something to this Idea after all.

  8. Hey Bro Anthony. This is Thanksgiving Day up here in Canada, and I am thankful for you Brother, and your Blogs,
I think Vlogging is a good idea for you, and if possible, I would like to see you do more.
Anyway, God Bless. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Very good Vlog! It’s a marvelous thing, how the Holy Spirit works.

  10. Can’t you go back to being just a little bit of what you consider a legalistic?

I miss hellfire and brimstone preaching. (Seriously.)

I met an elderly lady about a month ago who went to Tennessee Temple. Her husband studied under Dr. Lee Robertson.

    • Interesting request. Let me respond.

First, I don’t think “hellfire and brimstone” preaching is legalistic. It’s only the content, not the style, I take issues with. I actually sorta miss that kind of preaching, too. At the very least I miss preachers who aren’t afraid to say “thus saith the Lord!”

As for the way I preach, don’t judge me based on the little video that accompanies today’s post. For that matter, don’t judge what I’m capable of based on a few recordings. If I was only preaching to 5 people I know well, it was probably out of place for “hellfire.” But I do think that I can provide multiple examples of how I “shucked some corn” and “sheared the sheep.”

Believe me, I do get excited and “fired up” when I preach, but there is a theatrical element to the way some guys do it (i.e., Billy Sunday, etc.). It’s their personality amplified and tuned to solicit a response. I just try to be faithful to the Word and be myself. If I pound the pulpit and spit, so be it. Not opposed, just not my norm.

LoL. you make me laugh. “don’t judge what I am capable of.” I was waiting for , a Arnold type of retort , I’ll show you what Im capable of.. LoL. For everything a season…
I got a question. Do you have to approve every comment you receive or can you just make someone an approved commenter.

      • Actually, once I approve a pulpit-whacking snot slinger’s first comment, his comments are automatically approved from that point forward. I have only blocked one person in the last 10 years.

      • evolution is a

LoL. There are some ruff ones out there.

      • And hey, all I’m saying is that if you give me a corded mic and put me in front of a responsive crowd, I can even hang with a tongue-speaking Charismatic 😉 But, like you said, to everything a season.

      • evolution is a

LoL. I have heard something like that… Don’t give him the mike… long story about someone. One band I go to listen too always tries to single me out and get me up to say something. I never needed a mic. Just get me going… Sounds like youre the same.

      • I wasn’t judging you buddy. I was just being a narcissist and telling you what I missed. 😊

      • I love listening to Lester Roloff. Not a ton of doctrine, but stirring preaching.

For doctrine I love Bill Grady & Sam Gip.

      • I still remember seeing Roloff at Highland Park back in the early ‘70’s. I was just a wee tike at the time, of course. I remember talking with my dad about the plane crash that killed him (Lester Roloff).

But Sam Gipp… can we just stick with Robertson and Roloff and still be friends? Cumbayah?
