Resting and Reading

I’m not going to be posting much by way of original stuff this week – I don’t think (one never knows when he will be inspired). I’m spending my time with our daughter and son-in-law and our new granddaughter in Charleston, SC.

But aside from the visiting, I’m spending a lot of time in resting and reading. No TV. No amusement rides. Maybe a little time today at the gun range with my youngest, Haley, but mostly a lot of time reading and studying.

Reading: The Art & Craft of Biblical Preaching.

Studying: The Bible, specifically the book of Ephesians and John 3:16.

So, if you don’t hear much from me this week, understand that I’m retooling, refreshing, rearming, recharging in one of the most beautiful and historic cities in America.

And I’m sure there’ll be a bowl of shrimp and grits in my future 🙂

  1. Enjoy the rest! I went to Charleston once, and would love to go again; it was over 40 years ago for me

    • That’s too long! Did you have shrimp and grits then?

      • I did not! We did do a fun thing though. My stepmom took us on a road trip to see her daugher, and they had a boat, so we took a trip around the harbor. We even went to see Fort Sumpter by boat, which was really cool. They have a dock there just for that if I recall correctly.

      • Yeah, we’ve done that, too!! Totally worth it. It’s also awe-inspiring to be on a 19-footer just tooling around, then ride through the wake of a giant ocean-going tanker the size of a New York skyscraper.

      • Off topic, but my family is all going to Knoxville nest week for the Annual Messenger meeting of the American Baptist Association. Wife, son, daughter in law, granddaughter and mother in law. I won’t go, and neither will the girl child, as we are both in school summer term. No fair!

      • That’s sad. Really. I plan to go to the SBC meeting in Orlando next year. It’s been around 10 years since the last time I attended one. Just a money and time thing, of course.

      • Yeah, things do cost. That is ironic actually. My wife and her Mom were actually authorized by the church to be our Messengers and the church was going to cover their expenses. Unfortunately, some bad things happened and we aren’t actually attending there at the moment. We are still members technically, but they wont’ be submitting their expenses now. They still are going, mostly just to see and fellowshlip with so many folks we all know and love. And to be with the grandbaby, of course!

    I hope so.:)

  3. A baby! You get to hold a baby! I’m jealous.

  4. Enjoy your rest, Anthony, with family. But I imagine as much time as you are permitted, will be spent with, watching, holding, future dreaming, talking (😀) with that precious granddaughter.
    God Bless Y’All.
