I woke up this morning
With “thankful” on my mind.
I opened my eyes to a dimly-lit room,
But I could see – I wasn’t blind.
The iPhone that awoke me
Cycled one or twice
Again I hit the snooze alarm
But I could hear it – that was nice.
Never enough sleep is common,
And getting out of bed is hard.
But I had a bed to get out of.
I slept in a bed, not the yard.
Pain in my foot as it hit the floor.
My aching body walked out the door.
But at least I was walking on my own two feet,
Out of a house – with a door – pretty sweet!
I woke up this morning
And I could be complaining
But even if I was only complaining
I should be thankful – I woke up this morning.
I just had “thankful” on my mind.

I like that! Thanks for sharing. It is a good reminder to us all of all that we have to be thankful for. God bless! Sue
Thanks for a good message. It reminded me of something I ran across a few years ago through a great Apple app Prayer Prompter:
“It is always possible to be thankful for what is given rather than resentful over what is withheld – one attitude or the other becomes a way of life.”
(words of Elisabeth Elliot)
Elisabeth Elliot’s first husband, Jim Elliot, was killed in Ecuador in 1956 while attempting to share the gospel with the Auca tribe. Later she returned as a missionary to this very tribe to share the gospel herself. God’s love is so amazing, and his forgiveness and peace so real!
Lord, thank you for this today – I so easily complain about what I didn’t get, or expectations not fulfilled, yet so often I overlook the many good things I’ve been given and your blessings that overflow each day in my life. Forgive me for my ungratefulness, and renew in me a spirit of thankfulness and appreciation for all I have been given.
I might use that on Sunday.
The Elliot story is truly amazing and heart-wrenching, yet her quote is only something God could do in a heart.
Oh…this is so good! Thank you.
You’re welcome 🙂
Pastor started a 3 part series on that this morning
